This is a beautiful duet from George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, which I guess my dad used to play a lot. At first, Porgy and Bess go back and forth singing to each other, but then they sing together, two competing melodies which twine together. If I start out on the right note, I can actually sing both parts, which is quite fun until I get to the part where they sing together. That's not so easy.

ReplyDeleteThis one really brings back memories. It is worth listening to the whole opera - Summertime and Ain't Necessarily So two more great songs. Amazing that it wasn't accepted as an opera until the mid-80s.

I really enjoyed listening to this and looking at that beautiful picture of Harry and Daisy....and imagining you singing both parts...at the same time.
