86. Brother, Can You Spare a Dime? Milton Douglas with Leo Reisman Orchestra

I don't know much about this singer or orchestra other than that they recorded this in 1932. The song will be familiar to most people as an anthem of the Depression. I like this version because it's so dramatic with the trumpets. The introduction got my attention and made me listen to the words more than I had before; it helps that Milton Douglas sings so clearly, too. It's quite a poignant song when you think about it.

I think I've heard this version before but I have no idea where. The introduction...before the singing, is surprisingly long.

Yes: I thought you'd lost it, talking about the singing: clearly there wasn't any. But what do you know, a minute and a half in he pipes up. I liked his singing of it, too. Nice version.
