72. Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out. Bessie Smith

I chose this song to follow Judy Henske because I was listening to it one day and thought that Judy Henske must have been at least partly inspired by Bessie Smith - she really belts it out just like Smith. Bessie Smith (1894-1937) was a popular blues singer of the 20s and 30s, and one of my dad's favourites.

    I love this one. My nephew is listening to this one too and it generated an unusual discussion about hobos....
