A favourite song from a favourite musical, Oklahoma. This recording is from the motion picture and features Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae. It's great for both the lyrics and the tune. The lyrics are clever with some nice internal rhyme; the best is "grantin' your wish, I carved our initials on the tree." The introduction to each verse is very complex, not easy to sing but neat to listen to, which gives way to a very pleasant tune. It's actually not easy to pick a favourite song from this musical, since there are so many good ones: Oh, What a Beautiful Morning, The Surrey with the Fringe on Top (there's a really cool little punctuation thing that the trumpets do), Many a New Day (another one with a great tune and lyrics), etc. I will feature a more humorous song from this musical at a later date!
