Nanci Griffith (also featured at #65 with a livelier song) is a big favourite of ours. This one is from a live album - she talks about Woolworth's at the beginning. I remember Woolworth's on Water Street in St. John's; they had the most excellent chocolate-dipped doughnuts in the world. Plato's chocolate-dipped doughnuts. I will never taste their like again. Anyway, this is a great song. I thought it was especially poetic when she sings, "Eddy was a seed romancer" - what a nice way to describe a farmer! But then Dr S explained that Eddy is merely a "sweet romancer," not a farmer at all. Despite this setback, I still like the song.
