The Roches can be very grating and a bit too heavy on the synthesizer, but I like this one because it's an original (written by Terre Roche) and it surprises you because the shepherd is a girl.
It seems I've divided up my Christmas music into categories (appetizer, pre-New Year's), and this CD I would put into the semi-pop category, along with Mary Chapin Carpenter's Twelve Songs of Christmas, Emmylou Harris's Light of the Stable, and Shawn Colvin's Holiday Songs and Lullabies. These can be played safely before Christmas, along with various eclectic mixes of Christmas music.
