48. Lobe den Herren, BWV 137. J.S. Bach

Our choir sang this one in 2006. In this recording, they start with the chorale (the last verse of the piece), and then go into the chorus. I love the trumpets; the altos, tenors and basses pick up their line while the sopranos sing the chorale over the top. I couldn't find a very good translation of it but I've included something I found on the internet which seems pretty close to the original German.

Er ist dein Licht; Seele, vergiß es ja nicht;

Praise the Lord; what is in me, praise his name.
All that hath breath, praise with Abraham's seed.
He is thine light; soul, do not forget it!
Praise him into eternity. Amen!

Praise the Lord, the mighty king of honour,
My dear soul, this is my desire.
Come in droves, psalter and harp awake,
Let the song of praise be heard!
